|Title||La Processione Del Doge Nella Domenica Delle Palme Incisa in Venezia per Mattio Pagan (1556-69.)|
|Imprint||Venezia: Ferd. Ongania editore, Anno MDCCCLXXX.|
|Physical Description|| f.,  pl.; 555×675 mm.|
|Physical Description Note||The title leaf and the leaves carrying the reproductions of the woodcuts are loose within the covers. The reproduced cuts are tipped in. They show the originals as lettered A-H.|
|Content Format Note||[T.p.] - [Plates].|
|Summary Note||The original woodcuts reproduced here were probably intended to be displayed as one continuous sequence. They were lettered A-H and carried Latin captions identifying the persons and things represented: A. eight standards; B. six silver trumpets; C. ambassadors' servants and trumpets; D. servants of the Doge, and canons; E. the Patriarch, the white candle and ceremonial hat; F. the chair, the cushion; G. the Doge, the umbrella, ambassadors; H. senior officials.|
The set may be viewed as a generic representation of a Dogal procession; but the standards in cut A are those of the Priuli, implying that the set represents either Doge Lorenzo Priuli (1556-9) or Doge Girolamo Priuli (1559-67).
|Responsibility Note||None of the reproductions is signed. The original block G carries the imprint, top left, 'In Venezia per Matthio pagano in Frezzaria al segno della Fede'. Pagano was probably not the woodblock-cutter but the printer and publisher.|
