Engraver, in Britain; in 1763 visited Italy with Richard Dalton. Engraver to the Society of Antiquaries, and to the Royal Society. Son of printmaker / draughtsman Isaac Basire (1704-68); father of engraver James Basire (1769-1822); grandfather of engraver / lithographer James Basire (1796-1869).
