| Title | John Singleton Copley [Boston], to F. M. Newton |
| Date | 23 Nov 1767 |
| Extent & Medium | 1 piece, 2pp. |
| Content Description | Acknowledging his election as a Fellow. Copley is aware that the honour of the Society of Artists depends on the promotion of the arts, and reflects with concern that "my present situation...utterly deprives me of every opportunity (but what nature has furnished me with) of aiding in the laudable work. In a country where there is neither precept examples nor models to form the taste direct and confirm the practice." Filial duty provides his excuse for what otherwise might be construed as inactivity. |
| Note | Endorsed "A letter from Mr Copley at Boston". |
