| Content Description | He explains his recent ill-health, meaning that he has been unable to attend to Humphry's affairs. All of this also meant that he forgot to see Mr. Upton. He has Humphry's pictures with him; the Nabob's Tunkah. His Vizier, Hasan Reza Khan is now in Calcutta.
He did not expect to benefit from his Uncle's death, Lady Inchiquin and Mrs. Gwatkin had much stronger claims, Reynolds had bred both of them up as his children. He can only suspect that reports of his success in India were put in rather too positive a light and that his Uncle thought him in no need of pecuniary assistance. He can only lament his Uncle's utter indifference to his Aunt.
Poor Burgh died the previous year. Mr. Barber has secured partnership with an fine young man, Mr. John Palmer, son of Col. Palmer. Hay is still the same worthy soul. Smoult goes back to England with the current fleet.
He now has two wonderful daughters. |
