| Title | J. Hayes, Upper Charlotte Street, to Sir Thomas Lawrence, Pres. R. Acady. of Arts |
| Date | 2 May 1825 |
| Extent & Medium | 1 piece |
| Content Description | He thanks Lawrence for the copy of his discourse; he fully agrees that the support of Government will benefit the arts; he is concerned that patronage is being bestowed on the works of deceased foreign artists, to the expense of native artists, such as West; he quibbles with Lawrence on the placing of Sir Joshua Reynolds over West; he repeats (supposedly verbatim) a comment by West on the paintings of Lawrence when stood before Satan summoning up his legions. |
