|Title||John Gibson, Rome [to K. M. Bruce]|
|Date||23 May 1864|
|Extent & Medium||2 pieces|
|Content Description||Draft letter stating that Gibson had declined to undertake a big group to represent Europe on the memorial to Prince Albert, and that in Rome they did not cast large figures in bronze. Gibson uses the letter to describe his design for the group depicting Europe, which he wished to submit privately to the Queen. Gibson is critical of a design for the group sent to the committee by the architect, which featured the rape of Europa.|
