TitleGavin Inglis Hamilton, Rome [to Charles Townley]
Date23 May 1794
Extent & Medium1 piece
Content DescriptionHamilton describes his statue of Antinous. It was in two pieces, making a restoration necessary. He had offered it to Mr Jenkins for £1,000, but he had declined it; so Hamilton was obliged to offer it to the Pope, who had accepted. However, Hamilton shared Townsley's opinion that it was more interesting as two different fragments. Hamilton is sending two medals, a small bronze figure which seems to be of a boxer, and other artifacts to Townley via an intermediary.
