The work had been published serially from 1826. A few plates carry publication-dates of 1826, 1828 and 1833; and several signatures of draughtsman or engraver are accompanied by dates, of 1826, 1827, 1828, 1832, 1833, 1834.

George Cooke had intended to produce eighty prints from copper plates, but when rivals published views printed on steel plates, he reduced the number of his copper plates to forty-eight. (B. Adams reports an issue with 50 plates, the last two not included in the 'Descriptions Of The Plates' and carrying no date or publication line.)
Responsibility NoteAll plates are signed by the engraver George Cooke; and most are signed by draughtsmen, A.W. Callcott, E.W. Cooke, Clarkson Stanfield, J.D. Harding, William Harvey, George Cooke, D. Roberts, Sam. Prout, W. Havell, James Stark or John Sell Cotman.
