Summary NoteNo publication date is given on the title plate; but the commemorative portrait of Annibale Carracci (plate [4]) carries the date of 1674, and the set is listed in the Indice de Rossi of 1677 as published in that year.

The plates show Annibale Carracci's decorations of the barrel-vaulted ceiling of the gallery of the Palazzo Farnese, which he carried out between 1597 and 1601 for Cardinal Odoardo Farnese.

They depict Greek and Roman myths exemplifying the triumph of love.
Responsibility NoteThe engraved dedication is signed as designed and engraved by Petrus Aquila. The next two unnumbered plates (allegory, and port. of Carracci) are signed as designed and drawn by Carolus Marattus and engraved by Petrus Aquila. The numbered plates are all signed as painted by Annibal. Carraccius, and drawn and engraved by Petrus Aquila.

Each plate carries the publisher's imprint of Io. Iacob. de Rubeis (i.e. Giovanni Giacomo de' Rossi).

The work is dedicated by the publisher to 'Francisco Mariæ Phoebeo' (i.e. Francesco Maria Febi, titular bishop of Tarsus).
