|Summary Note||Androuet du Cerceau's [Premier] Livre d'architecture had appeared in 1559; the Troisieme Livre was published in 1572.|
All three are pattern books designed to propagate in France styles already favoured in Italy. The first offers plans and measurements for town houses; the second, examples of mantelpieces, dormers, doors, fountains, wells, pavilions and tombs; the third, designs for country houses and gardens.
In the dedication of this Second Livre Androuet announces a projected survey of royal and other buildings of France - which was eventually published as Le Premier [-Second] Volume des plus excellents bastiments de France (1576, 1579).
