Content DescriptionAlma-Tadema is amazed that Spielmann has chosen his picture called '3,000 years ago' to represent English art at the Roman Exhibition: a painting that was in a sense irreparably damaged in a gas explosion in 1866. Why had he not chosen the Aitchison portrait, or a more modern picture?
