Content DescriptionCopy letter in reply to Alexander's of 23 January: the Secretary states that the committee of the United Artists Exhibition did not like the portrait of the King by J. St Helier Lander, but had undertaken to place in the exhibition at least one work by each of the invited contributors. They also thought that Alexander's letter of 23 December seemed to imply that Lander had had a sitting at some time, even though the result was so unsatisfactory. The Council of the RA were glad, however, to have it established as a rule that in future only portraits of the King and Queen for which sittings had been granted, or which had been personally approved, should be exhibited. Could the rule be extended to all members of the royal family?
