Jewish teacher in Trzcianka, Poland (then in Prussia); in 1820 came to Britain, converted to Christianity, was ordained deacon, priest and bishop in the Anglican Church; in 1842 entered Jerusalem as Anglican missionary bishop in the city, founded a cathedral, school and hospital.
