| Content Description | This volume contains letters stemming from Lawrence's early years until his 41st year. In one of the last letters in this volume he states to Joseph Farington that he finally feels mature enough to speak as the older artist's equal.
Initial letters are fragmentary survivals from Lawrence's youth, very little in the volume belonged to Lawrence. Elements were purchased by Keightley and apparently inserted into Lawrence's papers for no obvious reason. The vast majority (around 150 letters) are actually letters by Lawrence to Farington. |
